River Kwai and bridge



This is one of the most popular tours in our Thailand holiday programme.

Most people probably know "Bridge over the River Kwai" from the movie of the same name, which was made back in 1957.

The film depicts a group of British prisoners of war captured by the Japanese during World War II and the suffering they were subjected to during the forced labor in connection with the construction of the bridge, connecting Bangkok and Rangoon..

It is estimated that about 13,000 prisoners of war and up to 100,000 civilians died during the construction of the Burma railway.

The bridge itself is located in a place called Tha Ma Kham, just 5 kilometers from the town of Kanchanaburi.

Location & Transport: The bridge over River Kwai is located in the Kanchanaburi area about 130 km to the west of the capital Bangkok. If you go to River Kwai from Bangkok the you can either book a minivan some where in the city or go by train or bus. The trains departure from the Bangkok Noi Railway Station.

If you want to take the bus to River Kwai then head for the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok. Well equipped air condition busses are available for your pleasant trip.

River Kwai is located about 300 km/4,5 hours drive from Hua Hin. Their are several touroperators in town at how you can easily book a trip.
